Aloha All,
Happy Veterans Day to all the Military Personnel, those who serve or have served this beautiful country of ours!
A couple of weeks ago my good friend Judy asked if I wanted to go to Louise’s Needlework in Powell, OH. For those of you who don’t know, Powell is a lovely suburb outside of Columbus, OH. Louise’s Needlework was purchased 5 years ago by Jill Washburn Elia, a lovely lady, who has worked hard to add many different lines of thread, beads, & canvases to the store. She has done a remarkable job along with the help of her employees. Recently their website was updated, a huge endeavor to undertake, which one of her employees, Dianne, has taken on with great enthusiasm! The shop has also re-located a short distance down the road from their previous location into a strip mall, bringing to it a lot more walk in traffic!
I was impressed by how light and bright the store is. There is even a settee with a fireplace and Christmas Tree, how inviting, and a perfect place for your spouse/partner to sit if they are not needlepointers! A large table is in the middle of the store with lots of space for classes to be held. Lucky for those of us living in North Ohio or surrounding States, heck anywhere a plane fly’s from, can take a class from Laura Taylor. Laura will be teaching at Louise’s next year April 17 – 20th! There will be a class project, Melissa Shirley’s “Winter Table”, which is a very elegant piece, and also canvas embellishment classes, call the store for more information, 614-436-3905, or email: jill@sheenasstitches.com .
This is going to be a really fun class, imagine painting fibers with a PanPastel palette! Yes, this is a technique that I have never tried and would love to learn, what an opportunity to be taught by the Laura Taylor! 😀 I have intrigued you enough to sign up, I sure hope so, this truly is an event you won’t want to miss!
Now I have some great shots of the store, so get a cuppa and enjoy the show….stitch of the day follows 😆
I just love this canvas, the stitcher changed a few things from the original Stitch Guide.
These are just a few of the canvases adorning the walls. I love that you can just look around on the walls. Of course there are some canvases on boards since there is never enough wall space!
I hope you enjoyed the photo tour and if you are ever in the area you must go and check out Louise’s Needlework , it is worth the trip.
I know you have patiently waited for the stitch so here it is, a combination lattice type stitch.
This sample shows a couple of ways to stitch the centers. You can stitch it as I charted it, which can be seen on the top row. Depending on what thread you use the effects will be different. When I look at it I can see a scalloped roof, make the lattice over two threads instead of three. I see the centers as acorns, I know I have thing a about them this month 😮 You can stitch an double oblong cross with a cross stitch on top as shown on the left and center of the second row, I stitched the left with a #4 Very Fine Kreinik and the middle with a #8 Fine Kreinik. The far right is a small vertical balloon stitch, or you could just leave the centers open for a light look. Really there are a multitude of stitches that can be used depending on the effect you are looking for, so have fun with the chart!
On the zoo front my latest edition, Tango, is very tame. He now comes to his name and I can pet him while he eats. He also comes over to me when I sit outside for some more petting.
I am trying to train him to pose nicely for the camera 🙂
Beardie of course is not afraid and is trying to yell louder than Tango at dinner time, but that is impossible, he has the loudest voice that I have ever heard in a cat!
And of course I cannot forget Angus, he would be devastated to have the cats be the main feature in the zoo.
Well that’s it for today folks. Take a moment to reflect on our heroes……..
