Hopefully everyone is well and stitching up a storm! Doesn’t “Zoom Zooming” sound like fun? It has nothing to do with cars and everything to do with stitching 😻!

I love being able to take a class from the comfort of my stitching chair. It is also wonderful to feel like you are surrounded by your stitching community, even if it’s all on your computer screen. One day we will be together again in class, but for now, Zoom works. Also, I do hope Zoom classes continue.

Embellishment class at Bedecked & Beadazzled’s Beehive would have been impossible for me to take this year, but Zoom allowed me to be in class!. So I shout “ Yay ” with glee 😸, I am all in for Zoom classes! Thanks Ruth !

Today’s stitch comes from my class project, Chameleon by Shelly Penko. I did obtain permission to diagram Diagonal Patches for this blog post. The original stitch is in Ruth Schmuff’s Stitches Volume 4 , it can also be found in the iStitches app Volume 4 .

Embellishment class at Bedecked & Beadazzled had been set and booked, then COVID hit and everything changed. This wasn’t a problem for Ruth Schmuff, she was up for the challenge. I had not heard of Zoom prior to Covid, but it came to the rescue. Ruth quickly learned the ins and outs of Zoom and changed the class from in person to virtual.

Zoom -Bellishment took place on June13 &14. I believe there were 14 stitchers in class and seeing everyone was awesome. We all received our canvases ahead of time so that we were prepared for class with questions.

Just like regular classes at the Beehive , Ruth made our virtual class truly special. On Thursday or Friday before class we all received a lovely Green box, which had class cookies inside! Large rainbow Black and White cookies were sent to us and they were delicious! You can’t have class without a sweet treat!😁 We also received fun gifts with our canvas, just like you do when you take a class in person.

Here is how I set up my stitching area.

I had my computer set up on a rotating stand and canvas held in place with K’s swivel head table clamp. I was able to recline into a comfortable position for class which was terrific.

We logged in to Zoom at the set time and Ruth opened the virtual door. Ruth was set up at the beehive, so we were able to see the lovely lime green and purple walls of our regular classroom.

On the computer you could see everyone when in Gallery view, then when Ruth was talking we switched to Speaker view. The virtual classroom was wonderful and you did feel like you were in class. We chatted saw everyones canvas and listened to all questions. A great time was had by all during the two day class!

During class I stitched Shelly Penko’s Chameleon . I love this canvas with all its bright fun colors.

There are great stitches all over this canvas. Today I am featuring the Diagonal Patch Stitch .

The Chameleons head is stitched following the Diagonal Patch stitch. At the top of the head I use 3 plies of Halloween Green Gloriana. To check a different thread combination I stitched a sample at the bottom of the head using 1 ply of Gloriana with 1 strand of Petite Silk Lamé. Because laying threads is fairly difficult for me at this tine I will use the bottom sample to stitch my Chameleons head. I love Halloween green Gloriana, but laying 3 plies of silk takes a toll on my back, so I am making things easier for myself. I love all the threads and embelishments that were picked for this canvas.

Just like all stitches you can create a variation of Diagonal Patch. I rotated the canvas 45 degrees and voila, a slightly different look.

Finally I charted out the stitch reversed so that the diagonal flow is now bottom right to top left.

This stitch is great for the lizard as it gives a bumpy appearance to the head.

I enjoyed every stitch that I tried, it doesn’t look like I accomplished much but there is more done than you think, The background stitch is fabulous and uses 1 strand of Color Dreams floche, which a wonderful overdyed floche that Ruth sells.

If you get an opportunity to take a Zoom class, I highly recommend it. The 2 days of virtual class streamed from Bedecked & Beadazzled’s Beehive were fabulous!

Our sweet Tango decided that he was fed up with his mama working at home and not paying enough attention to him. So last week he tried to rectify the situation by going into the office and threw up first on the desk by the work computer then continued throwing up all over the work chair. He slinked, well Tango’s slink, down to the basement. To his mum’s horror when she went into her office she found the pleasant fresh piles and boy was he in trouble! Tango has now been banned from the office!

Tango should have stayed on his perch!

At the Wild Kingdom of Beardie’s backyard we now have a fearless Blue Jay stopping by daily to eat, wait for it , Cat Kibble ! Yes, the silly bird doesn’t go for the peanuts but comes and takes several pieces of kibble flys off and comes back for more! It needs to be careful because Beardie has been known to take a bird out occasionally! What will be next!😹

Beardie does love her flower pots. Next up the deadly duo, Stimpy and Noe.
