Aloha All,

It has been a long time since I chatted with you. Many things have kept me from blogging. A primary issue was the actual platform that I blog on. It has been a REAL headache! I have finally enlisted professional assistance so things will be much better in a couple of weeks. Blog will take on a bit of a new look and I will have time to actually blog and stitch, which will be fabulous! I also lost a dear friend who I would occasionally collaborate with on this blog. Her death was sudden and devastating. In the near future I will post in Readers Showcase about Tess. Tess used a lot of the stitches from blog in her lovely needlepoint creations

The fun Magnet is a Zebra blowing bubble gum. Ruth Schmuff of Bedecked & Beadazzled had this magnet created and a portion of the sales are going to the Immune Deficiency Foundation (see Ruth’s Make a Difference post). The sale of this magnet will raise money to help support research for Common Variable Immune Deficiency (CVID), a rare genetic disorder and other primary immunodeficiencies. I was diagnosed with CVID 14 years ago. Ruth is one of my Best Friends and is trying to help raise awareness of my disease.

A big congratulations goes out to my friend Cheryl Roler Timko for winning three ribbons this year in the Stan Hywet Needlepoint Guild Stitchery Showcase..

A trip to Chicago and my last Embellishment class at the beginning of October were also great reasons to not blog. In other words a lot has been keeping me busy and off my computer. Never fear, I am still the sporadic blogger hoping to be less sporadic.

Todays stitch is a Composite Crossed Gobelin 1. A great little multipurpose stitch.

Let’s start with the latest Stitch.

Stitches:

Composite Crossed Gobelin 1 was used for the chest feathers in my little owl canvas.

Chest feathers stitch sample.

The chest feathers were stitched using one strand of Impressions (cream) for white stitches in graph. One strand of Petite Peluche for the grey stitches and one strand of Impressions (light brown) for the red Cross stitches in graph below.

This is a very small area and I wanted to create texture. I have to say I do like how this stitched up and it does have a feathery appearance. Of course this stitch could be used in many different small areas and where you see a tent stitch a French Knot or Bead can replace it.

Classes:

October has been busy first with an Embellishment class then the ongoing Mystery class, Lizard Collage by Ruth Schmuff. Lizard Collage is a fun canvas and you can read all about the first two lessons. “Lizard News” on Not Your Grandmother’s Needlepoint.

Lizard Coage

This is just a fun happy piece.

I don’t have photos of my embellishment canvas yet, Baron in Bloom, but will post about it when I start.

I have not mentioned Kimberly Smith’s zoom class at Bedecked & Beadazzled October 30 & 31st, Crop Circles. There may still be time to get into the class but you would have to call the shop to see, phone:: 410-296-0405 or email, sales@bedeckedandbeadazzled.com. I know kits are most likely available.

Chicago:

How can you go to another city and not check out the closest Needlpoint Shop. Well I can’t and I did visit Stitchers Garden in the Western suburb of Naperville, IL.

As always it was a treat to be in the shop ogling threads, canvases, magnets, & books. Stitchers Garden has a great selection of all of the above and a definite must see shop if you are in the Chicago area.

Owner Deb and I at Stitchers Garden.

The owner of Stitchers Garden Deb was in the shop when I stopped by. She had with her a small Chicago ornament that is custom painted for the shop.

Chicago is food town!

This canvas represents all the best foods in Chicago!

Day of the Dead

These photos show the inside of the shop looking to the back. I had to show off the lovely finishing on this small Day of the Dead canvas which is a approximately 2.5 x 3.5 inches.

These are just a few photos of Stitchers Garden.

Now you have to see the best Deep Dish pizza in Chicago, Gino’s East! This really is the best deep dish pizza I have ever had. Of course anytime we go to Chicago, Gino’s is a must have pizza.

This & That:

Cheryl is a wonderful prolific stitcher and truly deserved to win at the Stan Hywet Guild. Here are the three canvases she entered in to the Stitchery Showcase this year.

Second Place win!
Third place win.
Third place win.

These are beautifully stitched and finished canvases, well done Cheryl.

Finally, in Kitty news Tango has found a new hiding spot to stay safe from the girls. A box under the chair where he can peek out from!

That’s all for today folks. Blog will be back and running better within a few weeks, yay!!

Remember to take some time out to put in a stitch or two.
