Aloha All,

Looking outside today I can actually see the sky! We have had a lot of rain lately so when the sun comes out you truly appreciate it. I know it has been a while since I last checked in, time got away from me while I was trying to figure out a chart. While working on it I came up with Crossed Gobelin Border . This is a beautiful border stitch, not too wide but can easily be widened. I have some fun Photos for you today since my friend Cheryl Timko took a class at Absolutely Needlepoint in Cincinnati. Also this months magnet is sparkly and I have an accessory tip.

First I will show you Cheryl’s class canvas then we will go over todays stitch.

Cheryl attended a class taught by Tony Mineri at Absolutely Needlepoint in May. He wrote a Stitch Guide for Melissa Prince’s Abstract Elephants which Cheryl enjoyed stitching. Classes are always fun and Cheryl learned a lot of good stitching tips in this class. Knowing how much I love to go to needlepoint shops she took a lot of photos inside the shop. Abstract Elephants by Melissa Prince – Stitches chosen by Tony Mineri

Here is Abstract Elephants after 2 days of stitching😊.

Borders have been on my mind since I look daily at the Penny MacLeod canvas below. This canvas is on my needlepoint cart in front of my recliner, it goads me daily!

Crossed Gobelin border came to life while trying to chart a Woven Stitch Variation!😸 This is a narrow border, I think if you stitched it vertically you would have a nice striped wallpaper background.

Stitched Sample.

The border is made up of crossed Gobelin stitches, hence the name Crossed Gobelin . The diamond space between stitches can be left open or filled with beads, sequins, crystals, or an Upright Cross Stitch . Laying a ribbon thread like Neon Rays first then stitching the Crossed Gobelin over the thread is another option. By stitching over a ribbon you would have a full coverage stitch.

I wanted to trial new threads so the sample is stitched with Treenway Tranquility and Treenway Zen Shin. I also had to use one of my favorite threads Petite Silk Lamé.

Tranquility has a lovely sheen and a nice twist. Zen Shin has a slightly matte appearance which is unusual for a silk thread but works beautifully! I was only comparing the sheen of Tranquility to Zen Shin. Both threads provide good coverage on 18 count canvas.

The far left Crossed Gobelin is stitched using one strand of Petite Silk Lamé. I used one strand of Tranquility to stitch the center Crossed Gobelin and one strand of Zen Shin for the far right stitch. I loved the Treenway threads, Tranquility is very similar in thread weight to Petite Silk Lame.

Stage one of Crossed Gobelin Border 2.

Stage one stitched with one strand of Tranquility Zen Shin. The difference between the two border stitches is how you stitch the bottom Gobelin stitches. In the first border you stitch the bottom stitches all in the same direction. So it is a subtle difference.

Crossed Gobelin Border 2 Is stitched using one strand of Petite Silk Lamé, Tranquility, and Zen Shin. The bottom stitches are stitched using Treenway Zen Shin and all the bottom stitches are stitched first.

The far left top Gobelin stitch is stitched with Petite Silk Lamé. Stitches two and three of the border are stitched with Treenway Tranquility. The last stitch on the right is stitched with Treenway Zen Shin. Stitched in the above pattern you see a (V) versus a right or left slant.

While stitching I thought of weaving between the threads and trialed it. I liked the woven and waffle variations and will give you a chart for them next week.

Below the first border has size 3mm pearls in the center space. I love beads and this is just a splash of colorful fun!😻

Stitched Samples.

There are a number of stitches or motifs that can make up a border if stitched side by side, next time you are looking for a border stitch look at individual stitches and chart it side by side to see how it will work. The Wheat stitch would make a lovely border.

May’s magnet in the Magnet Maven club was a delightful bird. I love getting my magnets every month and June should be coming fairly soon.

Magnet of the month.

Many of you already know that the travel size Q-tip plastic containers will hold tubes of beads and spools of thread like Kreinik, Accentuate, Trebizond, etc. The new Wrigley’s Extra gum now come in a plastic container that is also the perfect size to hold your beads and spools of thread. The gum container is larger than the Q-Tip and is great to hold your threads and beads. I would put my project thread spools and beads to have them neatly contained, then when that project is finished you can re-use the plastic case. Here are photographs of the gum container.

What an inexpensive stitching accessory. If you like gum you can collect a number of containers!😀

Store Information:

This week Beardie went missing. She finally came home yesterday evening but I am not sure how well she is. We were unable to grab Beardie since she ran under the deck. She is drinking water and staying under the deck. I am asking for good thoughts and prayers that she gets better. She has no obvious injuries but she is a fairly old lady at 10 yrs old. I have been told that is old for an outdoor cat. Will continue to monitor and try and get her to the vet.

Re: your Beardie/ outdoor kitty, I had a similar incident with one of my ferals , Eddie, and I put Beef stock out for him . It has protein and he improved 100% and now on colder mornings is hopping in my lap! Hope this works for you! Cheers Cheers!
