Aloha All,
I had a mini vacation in Canada last week. Weather was lovely, saw my brother and family, plus I made it up to Cindy’s Needle Art in Richmond Hill. Richmond Hill is a suburb of the Greater Toronto Metropolitan Area. For some history for my long-time followers, I did go to Cindy’s Needle Art in August of 2016 . I am still amazed at the size of the store. It is huge!! I have been to a lot of different needlepoint stores and this is still one of the biggest stores I have seen. Today you will meet two Facebook Friends, tour this great needlepoint store, and I have a couple of stitches for you. Let’s get started!😸

Once inside this impressive store, I met two Facebook friends, Jan Stone and Donna Curley. We know each other from Facebook’s Needlepoint Nation group which is run by my friend Jane Wood . Needlepoint Nation is a closed group on Facebook, I know many of you are members, and to become a member you just have to search for the group and ask the administrators.
Both Jan and Donna live close to my brother’s home in Burlington, so we set up a day and time to meet at Cindy’s Needle Art . It is so fun to meet your Facebook friends in person and both ladies were as lovely as I had imagined.😁 There is a wealth of lovely needlepointers out there who have connected through different shops and needlepoint groups. As you can imagine my visit to Canada and Cindy’s Needle Art was fabulous!

The store has very high ceilings, is brightly lit, and has a large square footage, all necessary to run the store and finishing services. Classes are taught by Cindy and she creates the stitch guide for any class canvas and all Sew Much Fun canvases. There are multiple samples on display, both Cindy’s company, Sew Much Fun, as well as canvases from many other designers.
Sew Much Fun is a joint venture of sisters Randi Gelman & Cindy Saltzman , Randi designs the canvases and Cindy writes the stitch guides for them. How wonderful to be able to work with your own family!😎

Donna brought in two fabulous Stockings for finishing, shown below is one of the stockings. Look at the picture above with all three of us for the second stocking.

Both Jan and Donna stitch beautifully and are quite prolific! If only I could stitch as much as these lovely ladies!😻

As you walk into the store Jan is roughly in the middle of the store holding her Zecca Vested owl tote bag. The finishing is amazing!

On the right side of the cabinet is a fun bowl of vegetables finished as a chalk board!😸I would love to have one of my own pieces finished like this. Now all I have to do is stitch it!🙀😹

Walking through the store, you see the walls covered with canvases by different designers.
I see some Alice Peterson, Leigh, Pippin, Ruth Schmuff, Patti Mann, Melissa Shirley, Jean Smith, Penny MacLeod from The Collection, and others I don’t recognize.😁

The newest Sew Much Fun animal is this gorgeous Unicorn . I don’t know why all the kids love unicorns but it is a fad in Canada and the USA currently. If any of you know why kids love unicorns, I would love to hear about it?

A couple of the latest animals are Smokey the Bear(USA) & a Beaver.
Beavers tail and Canadian Maple Leaf finishing.
The Bear can represent either a Royal Mounted Police Bear in Canada, or Smokey the Bear in the USA. I just love the Beavers finishing, you stitch the tail and the back is finished with a Maple Leaf fabric! So cool!😎

This is just some of what Cindy’s Needle Art carries in stock. If you are in the area, you really do need to stop by and see the store. Everyone was so friendly. I was overwhelmed!

Jane Wood of Chilly Hollow Needlepoint Adventure is kindly allowing me to post her Chinese Lantern Background Stitch.

I am fairly certain that the stitched sample is stitched with 1 strand of Perle Cotton size #8 on 18 count canvas. This can be used as a single motif or as an open background stitch.
Since it has been a few weeks since I posted I am including one more stitch, Cashmere Checker Variation 2. Cindy used a Cashmere Variation for the center of one of her hearts. It looks fabulous!

I do remember that Jane Wood helped me by stitching this sample. I haven’t found it included in any post, so thought this is a nice extra stitch for you today.😸
Row 1 – 3 was stitched with 3 plies of Aqua silk, like Rainbow Gallery Splendor. The Purple Perle Cotton is size #8, 1 strand. In row 4 the pale gold is Kreinik #12, 1 strand. Row 5 the pale gold is 1 strand of #8 Kreinik, and aqua size 14 beads stitched in a right( / ) and left( \ ) slant.

Sew Much Fun small Heart.
Depending on what fill stitch you use, either tent, beads, or Oblong Smyrna Variation, this could be a wall, road, fabric, or a background stitch. Try the stitch with different threads, beads, stitch combinations on a scrap canvas and you can decide where it would look best on your canvas. You have to play with threads to get the best effect for your piece.
