Aloha All,

As promised I have the Woven Cross Stitch Variation charted out for you. This would make a lovely border and how you fill the empty space is up to you. This is the follow up to my post on “ Fun Borders ” which features a Crossed Gobelin Border.

The centerpiece of todays post is a virtual trip through my friend Cheryl Roler Timko ‘s eyes. Her husband surprised her by coming up with a trip to the last two states in the US that she had not been in. The silver lining to this trip was being able to visit Needlepoint shops. Ron had even researched where some of the shops were, now that is true love!😻

First up is the Woven Cross Stitch Variation .

Thank you Jane Wood for stitching a beautiful stitch sample of Woven Cross Stitch Variation . Jane has been my hands on many occasions when they didn’t work quite as I wanted or I wasn’t well enough to stitch. You can find Jane over at Chilly Hollow Needlepoint Adventure where she updates you on the needlepoint community daily.

The stitch is very similar to Crossed Gobelin Border , it’s just woven. Follow the charted thread count and you will have a woven border.

Here is the stitched sample.

Woven Cross Stitch Variation.

This was stitched with #8 and #12 Perle Cotton. There is a smyrna cross in the center between the first and second stitch from the right. Jane also stitched the steps in different Perle Cotton colors in the third stitch from the right. The smyrna fills the area perfectly, so if you did not want a bead, sequin, or Upright Cross there is always the Smyrna Cross stitch. The stitch has good coverage and what fun you could have with thread colors! You could make your own variegated look.😁

Woven Cross Stitch.

My variation of the Woven Cross Stitch leaves an open space between stitches that you can jazz up with beads and sequins.

Cheryl was very fortunate to be able to visit 8 Needlepoint Shops in the States she had yet to see. What a trip, I would love to do this one day! Since Cheryl and I met through blog she took multiple photos to show me the different stores. She also asked permission from the owners if they would mind me posting the photos of their store on blog! What a great friend! All pictures were taken by Cheryl Roler Timko .

I met Cheryl in 2012 when I had first moved to the West Cleveland area. I ran a 12 Days of Christmas Contest on blog and Cheryl happened to be a lucky winner. Once she realized I lived in West Cleveland, not far from where she lives, she contacted me. Since then we have have become good friends and get together weekly.

There were so many photos of Cheryl’s trip that I have selected the Chicago area stores to feature on blog today. I did some sleuthing to try and accurately represent each shop. In some photos the name of the store is on a bag. Also, I looked at each stores website for photographs of their shop. If I have put the wrong name on the photo please contact me and I will correct this.
