Today’s stitch was inspired by the Asian themed canvases I saw posted at the January Market. I do love Asian inspired canvases and thought a Background Stitch that would complement the canvases was just the stitch to design! So today I give you a Lantern & Coin Stitch.
The chart is color coded to show you the lanterns and coins, use the same thread for the stitch or mix it up.
This stitch reminds me of Chinese Lanterns and Coins that I saw while living in HI. Here is the stitched sample.
This stitch could be easily adapted to be only lanterns or coins. On the Coin stitch add one extra stitch on top and bottom and voila, you have a lantern. On the Lantern stitch take away the top and bottom stitch and you have a coin! How easy is that! The magnet to the right gives a little perspective on the size of the stitch.
There would be no need to change the stitch count if you just wanted coins or lanterns, unless of course you wanted the stitches closer together. Personally I like a little open area, I think it is just the right amount of open coverage.
If you don’t want to add the square in the middle this is what the stitch would look like….
The red thread in both samples is stitched using one strand of Capri 18, the center square is stitched using one strand of Kreinik Fine (#8) Braid 5005.
Last week I posted an older chart called “Ski Slope”, there was a little confusion on where the repeat of the stitch was, so I re-charted it for you to make it easier to see the repeat. The repeat area is color coded in red.
When I stitched this, I worked in horizontal rows. I hope this makes the chart clearer for everyone.
I have a fun coloring page for you for the March Calendar, it is a cat of course, but very cute!
In Kitty news, everyone has been fairly good these days. Noe is still not a fan of Tango, just look at Noe giving Tango stink eye!
I hope everyone has a great weekend and gets to stitch a little.
It is almost Valentines Day, so have a little chocolate, it is calorie free on the February 14th!
