Aloha All,

Today I am posting a stitch for a rustic door. I wanted this to be a Halloween House door with an irregular wooden construction appearance. I used Seagrass for the door, Silk Lamé for a portion of the door knocker and Kreinik Japan Thread #7 for the knocker itself. All these threads are in color party. I did change the color of the seagrass since I wanted a door color, and what we have is an aqua seagrass. In the instructions I gave ideas. I did not give an exact diagram for the door, since there are two stitches involved which require compensation.

Wooden Door

Remember when stitching with Seagrass do not pull to tightly. This thread stretches therefore you need to keep a light tension otherwise the thread will end up fairly skinny and the coverage changes. Use short lengths and remember to use your laying tool.

For my news many of you already know that I have newly discovered I have a form of Rheumatoid Arthritis. I have not been able to stitch much because at the moment my hands especially my right hand is very painful. I have started to stitch with my left hand and have to say I can bead very competently with it. I have high hopes that I will be able to become ambidextrous I am telling you this so that if you don’t see much stitching it is because I am not able to at the moment.

I have found that I can make fobs for scissors with felt balls. It does not require fine motor skills, and I don’t have much pain making them. Below are my prototypes,

Scissor Fob

The beauty about this is that you wear it on your wrist! It is very light and I added a needle threader to it. Here is one on my wrist,

Scissor Fob worn

I am going into production making more of them with different colors of balls and beads. Another great thing is that you don’t need to take it off your wrist to use the scissors

So, if you want one with a specific bead shoot me a comment.

I will show off some iced Halloween cookies in my next post. Have fun stitching, and put a few stitches in for me. That’s all for now………

chillyhollowneedlepointadventure says 28 October, 2013 at 8:30 am Feel better soon! It looks like you have been pretty busy to me despite the RA. The little felt ball bracelets are very clever and I love the door and its knocker. Hope the meds kick in and that the inflammation dies out soon. Many hugs from CH, Jane Catlady says 28 October, 2013 at 10:07 am Thanks Jane, Trying to keep busy and find other crafty outlets 🙂

Aloha All, I love stitching in all forms, currently I work mostly on painted canvas and embellish it will different stitches and beads.

I also love animals and currently have 4 cats, 3 that live in the house, and my 1 girl who refuses to live inside but pops inside to eat :)

When I am not stitching I may be knitting or exploring with my camera in hand.

If you ever want a stitch diagramed send me a comment and I will help if I can.

Have a great day and stitch when you can! Read More…
