Aloha All,

Today I want to talk about how glad I am that several authors have published their books as apps for the iPad. I am sure this is not an easy feat so I would like to thank them for doing this. For me it is great since when I travel I always have some stitch books at hand on my iPad. They are now my go to books since I have had Achilles reconstruction surgery and am limited with my mobility. My office is on the second floor and at this point I am only able to get around the first floor. Prior to surgery I did bring several books down, but it is impossible to bring my whole library. As I sit and stitch I use my iPad constantly, it is always by my side. I can quickly scan through stitches in these books,

I also have iStitches Volume 1 and 2 by Ruth Schmuff & Suzy’s Portable Stitches 1. These are all of the books I am aware of that are available for iPad (these also download to iPhone & iPod). Sandra Arthur’s’ book Shapes of Needlepoint 1 & 2 is available on iPhone/ iPod, it does not come up on my iPad. Hopefully soon we will see Sandra’s Shapes 3 & 4 and Stitch In’s & Out’s become available for iPad/iPhone/iPod. When you buy one of the book apps if you have an iPhone, iPad, &/or and iPod all the apps become available to all of your devices. I always have my phone on me wherever I go so if I want to quickly look up a stitch there it is I know many stitchers own the books and download the apps just like I have done, it just makes everything so much more convenient and easy. It is my hope we will see more authors following suit and even Needlepoint Now Magazine. I for one would subscribe to the digital edition of the magazine. Already I subscribe to two digital knitting editions so that I am not collecting extra paper. Inevitably I end up throwing out the knitting magazines then later have to buy a pattern that was published in it. Now that I subscribe digitally, the magazine is stored in my library and I am able to print out any pattern.

Up next is a funky set of frogs that Ruth Schmuff designed and just released, I just love them and one day will have to stitch one especially since it is one of my Logos.

Frogs – Just For Fun

Is that not a fabulous display at Bedecked & Beadazzled! Go to Bedecked and Beadazzled’s site to see these great frogs, I wonder if she was thinking of me when she designed the Skull and Bones frog

Today’s stitch is a combination stitch similar to Criss Cross Hungarian but on a smaller scale.

Criss Cross Hungarian Variation

Use this stitch in any way you choose. Leave out the beads for a more open look, change them to cross stitches. Both different directions of the mosaic make it a more neutral stitch.

Now for the Zoo, many may not remember Beardie since I have not featured her in quite some time. She is Stimpy and Noe’s mother, Smokes is Lobo’s father. Enjoy the pics,

And last but definitely not least my boy Angus in the back yard.

Have a great week stitching, I know I will, it is far too hot and humid to be outside.

lindam55 says 15 July, 2013 at 2:29 pm I too have Sandra Arthur’s Shapes on my iPad and it’s one of the first iPads. Now I have to get a new one (thinking of getting the mini) because I can’t get Ruth’s third book as an app on the old iPad. Catlady says 15 July, 2013 at 3:21 pm Hi Ok just talked to Ruth since she has Sandra’s books too on her iPad. I have the newest iPad and they would not come over from my old iPad. What you need to do with the new version is sync to your computer then for Sandra’s books Look under iPhone apps since it does not come up under iPad apps. For Ruth’s books, sync to your computer then search under istitches, you will then find it and it will show up as your purchase 🙂

stitchy Mc Floss says 15 July, 2013 at 2:51 pm Aww your cats are adorable! Love the frogs and other canvas. I just found out about your surgery, sending well wishes your way that you will heal very soon. I love the electronic magazines. I have them all on a thumb drive so I can take them with me on my key chain and where ever I go I have an entire library of patterns. I truly wish the cross stitch magazines here in the USA would start doing electronic issues, too. I am with you, I’d be more inclined to subscribe to Needlepoint Now if it were electronic. I just don’t have the space for all that paper anymore, it takes the space of fibers, canvas, fabric, yarn…. Sending you blessings and keep up the good work on all the fab stitching projects. 🙂 Catlady says 15 July, 2013 at 3:22 pm Hi Stitchy, thanks so much for the well wishes. I was keeping my bad ankle under wraps, literally 🙂 Here’s hoping we will get more digital magazines in the near future and books.
