I hope that everyone who celebrates Easter had a lovely day. In Northeast Ohio the sun was shining which is always wonderful to see. The Easter bunny was very good and left me a few chocolate eggs from our local Chocolate shop, Malley’s! They do have an online shop if you wanted to sample a few chocolates, their Chocolate covered Oreos are divine!
This week I have a beautiful stitch and its variation charted for you. It is common knowledge that Jane Wood has been helping me by stitching all my stitch samples. A week ago Jane was auditioning stitches for her Melissa Shirley Carrot Car, I suggested the Sandhills Stitch which is in “Father B’s 21st Century Book of Stitches”. If you have Father B’s last edition which was released in 2000 the Sandhills Stitch can be found on page 35. Jane liked the stitch but stitched a variation to make it work for the Carrot Car. Melissa Shirley’s Carrot Car canvas will soon have a fabulous stitch guide created by Jane Wood of Chilly Hollow Needlepoint Adventure!
Today I am posting the Sandhills Stitch and the Sandhills Stitch Variation. If you own Melissa Shirley’s Carrot Car you are going to love Jane’s Stitch Guide, I have had a sneak peek and think it is fabulous!
You do need to watch your stitch count, once you get into the rhythm it won’t seem as difficult. I have numbered the diagram so that the grey stitches are completed first in diagonal columns, then go back and fill in the red stitches.
The original Sandhills Stitch was stitched using 2 different colors of #8 Perle Cotton. I think this stitch would work well for fabric, a stormy sky with lightning bolts, tree trunk, etc. It is best to stitch this with two colors and I really like it stitched with different types of threads.
Here is the Sandhills Stitch Variation.
The Carrot Car is stitched using the Sandhills Stitch Variation. Isn’t the stitch fabulous for the car! The carrot was stitched with two different threads which really accentuates the stitch. Not to fear, as soon as the Stitch Guide is complete I will let you know. Jane will be selling it from the Needlepoint Stitch Guides section of Chilly Hollow Needlepoint Adventure. Take a ride on the magic carpet and you will be taken to Needlepoint Stitch Guides. Thanks Jane for letting me show off your Carrot!
If you don’t have Father B’s book, I highly recommend it. There are 350 stitches, many are very unique. The graphs aren’t the easiest to see but it was released 18 years ago and graphing software has really evolved since then.
The kitties have been semi behaving. Tango let himself upstairs last night, the basement door was probably not latched properly so he came up and started crying at 5:30am! He wanted to be fed! My newest kitty, Blackie has been coming twice a day for meals and her coat is starting to look beautiful. I don’t think she was getting regular meals before arriving in my backyard.
Noe of course is not happy about having Blackie in the yard since she wants all of my attention!
The girls love to pose for photos!
Beardie’s new name is Miss Piggy since she has to taste all food that is put out for Blackie! She is starting to get a little rotund!
Well folks hope you enjoy the stitches and were entertained by my “Tiger” crew! Take some time to put in a few stitches this week.
